Streamproof explained: OBS, Discord and Nvidia capture

Why some overlays still show up on a screenshare, and what real streamproof rendering means in 2026.

StreamproofTechnical

Screen capture works by grabbing frames from the desktop compositor or directly from the GPU. Cheap overlays draw into the same surface the capture reads, which is why they appear in a Discord screenshare even when the user swears they are hidden.

Where captures come from

  • Desktop duplication used by OBS display capture
  • Game capture hooks that read the swap chain
  • Nvidia and AMD hardware encoders used by ShadowPlay and Discord

What real streamproof does

It renders outside every surface a capture path can read, so what you see locally never reaches the encoder. That covers OBS, Discord screenshares and Nvidia capture at the same time, without you toggling anything mid game.

Every Ikuzi plan that includes our external ships with this rendering path enabled by default.
